Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12 1809, in Kentucky. Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln had many accomplishments in life. Lincoln had a very political work life. Lincoln was president from May 4, 1861, to April 15, 1865. Lincoln had many accomplishments while he was president. Lincoln did not support slavery. Lincoln served a big role in freeing slaves.
Lincoln grew up in a log cabin in the backwoods of Hardin county, Kentucky, the county is now known as LaRue county. Abe’s father, Thomas Lincoln, was a migratory carpenter and farmer. Nancy Hanks, Lincoln’s mother, died when Lincoln was nine years old. Abe’s father soon remarried a widow, Sarah Bush, she was kind and affectionate to Abe. When Lincoln obtained his attorney licensed in 1836, he moved to Springfield and became a law partner of John T. Stuart. Lincoln served one term in congress. In 1842 Lincoln married Mary Todd. In 1848 Lincoln did not win the office he desired, so he decided to retire from politics and return to the practice of law.
When Abraham Lincoln became president he had many challenges facing him. Lincoln faced slavery and civil war. Lincoln did not believe in slavery. Lincoln’s plan to abolish slavery was to emancipate the slave owners with federal funds. (CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS FOUNDATION Bill of Rights in Action). Lincoln thought slaves have the same rights has other Americans. The Emancipation Proclamation, however, did not free slaves, because it only applied to states not under Lincoln’s control (The Accomplishments of President Abraham Lincoln). The thirteenth Amendment is actually what freed all slaves in the United States. Lincoln was a strong supporter of the Thirteenth Amendment, but was assassinated before the final enactment of the Amendment.
Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States did many things. He taught himself to read, he became an attorney, and he worked with legislation and congress.
