Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely As In a close reading from, Macbeth, William Shakespeare reveals to the reader, the staggering character development of the Thane of Cawdor and Glamis, and soon to be future King Macbeth. The author illustrates Macbeth as a man known to everyone as “Valour’s Minion” , and an honorable person to becoming a sadistic and cold-blooded king. As we progress in the story we see that Macbeth first taste with Murder starts with him doubting himself , and his ability in killing an innocent soul. As Macbeth’s persona begins to change, the murdering of Banquo becomes so effortless and easy, than that of King Duncan’s was , because Macbeth saw the “light” in Banquo and realized how far Banquo could threaten his kingship.
Macbeth Power corrupts. A simple truth, oft repeated. However, for Macbeth, that truth became all too real, as he became corrupted simply to attain power. At the beginning of Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, the title character is a Thane in Scotland, a high rank. On his journey home from war, he and his friend Banquo encounter three witches, who appear, as Banquo describes them, as “women, and yet your beards forbid me to interpret that you are so.”
Shakespeare has written numerous famous plays, MacBeth being one of his darkest plays, touching up on the topic of the thought that power sometimes leads to corruption, and how it can manipulate someone’s thoughts and actions, bringing them to do things they thought they never would. In MacBeth, there are many examples of MacBeth trying anything to gain power, even if the guilt will eat him alive. In the beginning, the Three Weird Sisters know of a prophecy allegedly saying that MacBeth will one day be King. After they tell MacBeth, he, over time, starts to obsess over becoming the highest positioned person in the hierarchy.
By writing Macbeth, Shakespeare was trying to prove a point about how misusing power leads to corruption. When Macbeth becomes Thane of Cawdor he realizes all the power he could have. For example, Macbeth says, “My murderous thought is still only imaginary but it shakes my entire manhood so deeply that my power to act is smothered by expectation, and nothing seems real to be except what I imagine. ”(Act 1 scene 3 lines 149-151). Although at first Macbeth wants to kill King Duncan but he is scared to.
The Tragedy of Macbeth (1606) is a play about the quest to obtain power. Not only about how to obtain power but the effects it has on the person that gains it. There are many ways that a person and inherit the crown of a king. Sometimes it can be hereditary or it can be by the act of regicide, they way Macbeth uses to gain his powerful position. His next actions are his most desperate attempts to maintain his position as king of Scotland.
We all desire power depending on how much is up to the person and how they use it. " Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". Because Macbeth’s and Lady Macbeth’s decision to murder Duncan, Both face the guilt of the power they abused portrays on the shadows that reflect on them as well as the natural consequences they will face. During the first half of the play, Lady Macbeth expresses her unnatural feelings and this is demonstrated through the corruption of power when she want’s to hire people to kill Duncan because she thinks that Macbeth is too scared. At first, when Lady Macbeth hinted “Their drenchèd natures lies as in a death”(1.7.78). This demonstrates that Lady Macbeth is characterizing corruption of power due to the fact that she want's to kill Duncan, therefore she can be queen of cawdor while Macbeth is king.

This assassination could never “trammel up the consequence” (1.7.2-3), as Macbeth believes, but only leads to more trouble. Although Macbeth seizes the throne, Macbeth had to betray his loyalty to the king whose “virtues will plead like angels” (1.7.18-19), and his morality has paid the price. Macbeth has now lost all sense of what honor is by using such dishonest ways to become king.

Much of the time, though, a thirst for power can lead to the madness and destruction of a character who was before thought of as sane.
