The Tragedy of Macbeth (1606) is a play about the quest to obtain power. Not only about how to obtain power but the effects it has on the person that gains it. There are many ways that a person and inherit the crown of a king. Sometimes it can be hereditary or it can be by the act of regicide, they way Macbeth uses to gain his powerful position. His next actions are his most desperate attempts to maintain his position as king of Scotland. His tactics for his rise to power were immoral. From regicide to use witches, Macbeth appeared to do anything to gain and maintain his position of king. Shakespeare’s theme of power is portrayed by having Macbeth use immoral means to achieve and hold the title of king profited by the weird sisters. In the late 1500’s into early 1600’s a king was said to be chosen by God to be in that position. This can be proved by the article entitled “ The Divine Right and Irresistibility of Kings and Supreme Magistrates.” (The Divine) This article states that kings are appointed by God and gain their power from him. Presidential candidates will lie about almost everything to gain supporters. Candidates will do almost anything to ridicule or embarrass other candidates. Take Theodore Roosevelt for example. He choose President Taft to be his successor but his planned failed. At the next presidential election he ran in an alternate party that resulted in a tear in the republican party. He did this to attempt to get rid of the decisions made by Taft but made way for President Wilson to win the election. Another example is Andrew Johnson, the first President to be impeached. Andrew Johnson was impeached for his high crimes and misdemeanors. The only other President to be impeached is Bill Clinton. He supposedly abused his power. The act of impeach is the consequence of an immoral deed done by a government
