Have you ever tried to find and search for your identity in this crazy mixed up world? Well in this story Arnold will take one on an adventure through his crazy mixed up life. The author wrote this book to connect with teenagers all around the world through pictures, but most importantly… words. This book is about a young fourteen year old indian boy who grew up on the reservation, or “rez” for short, and he tells us what it’s like to be poor, go through losing friends,and what it’s like to get bullied. Sherman Alexie wrote this book to connect with readers young, and old. There are many ups and downs, and lots of themes present in the, “Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian.” One theme in particular that is interesting throughout the story is that sometimes one can lose oneself, so one just has to get out and know where to find it again. …show more content…
The first quote in the book that one will find interesting is, “You’re an old time nomad, you’re going to keep moving in search of food and water, and grazing land. That’s pretty cool”(Alexie 230). This quote holds an emotional tie to the theme, and at the end of the book, it tells who Junior is. Even though Junior didn’t find it himself. His best friend helped him find it even through hard times.
To put it another way, the next quote that was used starts like this, “She hadn’t given up. The reservation had tried to suffocate her, had kept her trapped in the basement, and now she was roaming the huge grassy fields of Montana” ( Alexie 91). This quote was used because, Arnold's’ sister knew who she wanted to be, she knew what she wanted to do, but she stayed on the reservation. It suffocated her, and she lost her way. So she decided she had to leave to help
