The Burns Survey: A measure of Academic Anxiety College students are swamped with work and constantly under intense pressure to perform at their best. The hypothetical construct that this survey will be measuring is academic anxiety in a college setting. It’s important to create a measurement scale to gage the levels of academic anxiety students are burdened with. Anxiety disorders are the most commonly in children and adolescents (Essau, Conradt, Sasagawa, & Ollendick, 2012). This measurement has the potential to create a sense of relief for kids and provide strategies to manage work as well as the anxiety associated with school work and exams. A study conducted by Skryabina, Taylor, and Stallard (2016) studied anxiety prevention on children’s academic performance. Selected students were put in FRIENDS therapy to help reduce anxiety associated with academics. All students were tested on their reading, writing, and math skills 12 months after their condition therapy or no therapy depending on the condition. This research was done through a randomized controlled trial with 1.448 eligible children, and 1,362 consenting students that took part in the main study. (2008) conducted a study on the mental health of college students vs. non-college kids of ages 19-25. The study focused on the impact of alcohol and other related substances had on the mental health of the participants over a 12-month period. There was a totally of 5092 participants, 2188 participants in college and 2904 who did not attend college in the last 12-months. Participants were evaluated over the 12-month period to see if any psychiatric disorders or drug addictions occurred. The results showed that college students were less likely to have had any type of psychiatric disorder within the 12-months. But overall the college students were more likely to have been diagnosed with an alcohol use disorder than the non-college-peer group. This research shows the mental health of college students vs. non-college people.
