William Taft was the 27th president of the United states. He was born on September 15, 1857. He was president from March 4, 1909 to March 3, 1913. William prefered law over politics, by 34 he was a circuit judge. President McKinley sent William to the Philippines in 1900 as chief civil administration. He was sympathetic toward the Filipinos so he improved the economy, built roads and schools, and gave people participation in the government. President Roosevelt made him secretary of war, by 1907 Roosevelt decided that Taft should be his successor. The Republican Convention nominated him in 1908. In 1912 the Republican renominated Taft, Roosevelt left the party leading to the Progressives, guaranteeing the election of Woodrow Wilson.Taft served
