In 1991 in northeastern Texas, a horrific event happened that would forever change a man’s life. That terrible day, twenty-three year old Cameron Willingham lost his children and his life would never be the same. A fire engulfed the Willingham’s house, burning every inch of the frame and everything that was inside, including his babies. When the police were called, Willingham was very distraught and made loud out cries, pointing the first responders in the direction to his children inside the house. As the firemen did everything they could to distinguish the flames, Willingham was continuing to grow more and more hysterical.
Heroes: Fighting for the Small Guy What are heroes, exactly? To I a hero is a man or woman shaped by the values around them, to reflect the people's way of thinking and safeguard what they believe. None other than, the classic hero of old, Beowulf and the Green Arrow, Oliver Queen, the modern hero who safeguards the rights of the people against their oppressors. Both Beowulf and Queen embody and embrace the timeless values of bravery, selflessness, humility, and caring.
Ronald P. Bucca A hero is a person who puts themselves in danger for others. Heroic acts can range from small gestures or actions to saving countless lives. Heros are known for their outstanding achievements and bravery.
As humans, we tend to idolize people from all over the world for their remarkable qualities, bravery, actions, skills, leadership or ways of life. These people are often referred to as heroes, whether it is a leader, Superman, or a local community hero, they all share something in common, and it’s not a cape. What makes each of these people heroes? Their extraordinary character traits set them apart from their less noteworthy peers. While there is a myriad of traits that heroes possess, the most significant ones are their bravery, their willingness to ask for help, and their strength to always do what is honorable.
A hero is a person admired for his qualities or deeds. These individuals have impacted others by performing extraordinary acts. Every hero has left a legacy that has affected many lives in a positive way. When thinking of heroism, Louis Zamperini comes to mind for his courageous and selfless actions.
At first thought, the word hero brings up the idea of sacrifices. Firefighters could be known as heroes, they risk their lives to protect citizens. Though not all heroes sacrifice their lives, some heroes solve difficult problems for the benefit of others. In the story, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, the author writes about a group of boys who have both struggles and heroic titles. Hinton shows that heroism can come in different forms, big or small, life-changing or heartwarming.
A hero could be anyone. Heroes don’t have to shoot lasers or be able to fly. A hero could be someone who simply shows a great act or certain character trait like bravery or courage. Heroes go through a journey containing a call to adventure, a departure and a return to their homeland. A good example of heroism and heroic acts is David from the Chrysalids and Daniel from The Dangerous Days of Daniel X. David and Daniel experienced sacrifice, hardships and bravery through their journeys of becoming a hero.
Debi Mazar is an actress who stated, “A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who just tried to give back as much as possible and help people. A hero to me is someone who saves people and who really, deeply cares.” Heroes are relevant to everyone, because at some point, everyone has had a hero. Sadly, today’s society degrades the meaning of the word “hero”. Heroes are an important aspect of life, but famous people are not always heroes.
Heroes are a rare and amazing phenomenon. Two heroes that stand out in literature are Beowulf and Achilles. Beowulf is a Herot who is a selfless, even tempered, fate fighting warriors who saves his kingdom numerous times from threats, such as monsters and enemies. Achilles is a Greek, selfish warriors in Greece but has a hot temper and is often unforgiving. Achilles wants to help take the kingdom of Troy, but doesn’t agree with the war.
A hero is anyone who makes the right decision to sacrifice for a person in need. For example, without heroes like firemen, wildfires and house fires would spread across the nation, costing lives and loss of worldly possessions. Firemen stand strong, risk themselves, and protect all for the well-being, safety of others, and personal property. In addition,
As someone once said, “A hero is someone who steps up when everyone else backs down.” Thus, this quote means that really a hero is someone who doesn’t quit when things get tough, instead stand up and take the role. Without a doubt, both Darry Curtis and Dallas Winston, from the novel The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton are heroes.
Looking back on the myths a hero did not have it easy. They faced a lot of tough challenges and had to sacrifice many things to gain their status. Also look at one Hero that is highly idolized and used to day, the American solider. Little kids dream of being them and do pretend battles while lacking to see the true meaning behind them. That heroic meaning is them risking their lives, that they walk away from their families knowing they might not come back.
Heros. Who are they? They are not the ones that are fighting the imaginary villains. Heros are the ones who save others emotionally and physically and do whatever it takes to do the impossible. The Outsiders, a young adult fiction novel, by S.E Hinton, has multiple acts of heroism throughout the novel.
During World War 1, the battlefields were not constricted to land but rather took place overseas as well. World War 1 is known for several revolutionary boats that were used by the Navy to protect the nation’s soil by sea. Many of these ships included the Dreadnought, submarines, and a weapon used on submarines, torpedos. Throughout the war, these pieces of machinery have protected and served as a navy allowing countries to succeed at war. Most commonly known and used during world war 1 was the dreadnought, a large powerful battleship.
While the human brain allows humans to sustain life and perform many complex tasks, like anything it has its flaws. One function of the brain that repeatedly fails us is memory. Before attempting to understand the flaws located throughout the memory process, the basic types and systems of memory need to be understood. The two basic types of memory are short and long term. The first type of memory, short term, requires conscious thought to acquire and can only hold a limited amount of information that can only be kept for a duration of less than a minute (Smith, 2016).
