“Many of the cognitive enhancement drugs serve to increase focus and concentration, but ‘letting your mind wander’ is very often an important part of the creative process.”(Cascio) Cognitive enhancement drugs are brain or memory drugs that are said to increase memory retention, focus, and improve your attention span temporarily. Some college campuses are debating whether the students’ recreational use of cognitive enhancement drugs such as Adderall or Ritalin, typically prescription-only drugs used by people with ADHD, should be considered as a method of cheating. Cognitive enhancements should be considered as a method of cheating on campus because the fact that it is prescription-only drug used to treat ADHD, the negative effects it can have on frequent users, and it really doesn’t benefit someone in the long run. Typically, cognitive enhancement drugs like Adderall and Ritalin are only available through prescription for those students who have been diagnosed with ADHD, the other percentage of students who who don 't have ADHD purchase these drugs from those students at street prices. They should take note that they could be prosecuted if caught illegally using them, the negative side effects it can impact on their body and health, long-term effects such as decrease in memory retention and that it can even stunt the development of a child. They should not abuse the use of the prescription pharmaceutical and should consider opting for more practical methods to achieve better grades.
