Winston Churchill was not the typical politician. He stood up for what he believed in, and through the power of speech, gave hope and strength to an island the size of one U.S. state. This hope and strength helped Britain become a force to be reckoned with. (eyewitnesstohistory.com) Adolf Hitler is one of the most ruthless men who has ever walked on our planet, and he came to power when yet another ruthless leader emerged, Joseph Stalin. Born on December 18th, 1878, Joseph Stalin was a frail little boy, and he gained smallpox at the age of seven. His left arm became deformed after he got in a carriage accident, this resulted in being cruelly persecuted by the other village children(Biography.com). One of the biggest ones that occurred was the revolt formed by the kulaks in 1932. Stalin responded by cutting off all supplies to them for two years. This response resulted in the death of over ten million peasants due to famine or execution(Webcache.com(Google Biographies)). This was probably the final act of ruthlessness that set the country straight. Almost no more uprisings occurred during the next part of Stalin’s ruling. When clouds of the Cold War began coming overhead, Stalin made a brilliant tactical move, making a non-aggression pact with Hitler and Nazi Germany. And when his military general warned him of German troops approaching them, Stalin made no move and was sure that they wouldn’t do anything rash. He was mistaken, and they attacked and obtained parts of Russia’s eastern territory. Stalin was so distraught at Hitler’s treachery that he even hid in his office for several days. After finally regaining his resolve, Stalin struck back(Biography.com). After acts of bravery and bold moves on the battlefront, the Nazis were turned back at the battle of Stalingrad, where the Soviets recovered more than 250,000 corpses from both Soviets, and Axis Powers.
