The four steps in the control process are vital for a business to incorporate to stay healthy and prosperous. They are as follows, establish standards, measure performance, compare performance to standards, take corrective action if necessary (Kinicki, 2016).This is something that is very simple to understand. However, it can take time to incorporate. What GM had done wrong before the recall, was that they were failing to pay attention to what the consumers wanted. They started to make cars based on surface aspects. What they should have done, was looking deeper and see what people can afford and what fits their lifestyle (Koehn, 2009). The second issue was that they were failing to keep an eye on their competition. They lacked in standards which would have been caught in step two in the control process (Koehn, 2009). The Final issue is that they had bad leaders that were unable to see the problems arising and were unable to suppress them. Moving forward, they should work harder in the all four steps. If they would have done this, the issues may not have happened. When they can listen to what their customers says and can incorporate the ideas into their automobiles they will become much more successful and better servant leaders (Casterlow). The same can be said about being aware of their community and their customers. When GM senses that there is a problem, it is their job to jump right on it, this shows to everyone that they care about the community (Casterlow). When they adopt these principles, they will be able to regain trust from their customers that will help them get back to where they
