PERSUASIVE SPEECH OUTLINE Topic: Foster Care/Adoption Specific Purpose: To Improve foster care around the world Thesis Statement: Consequently, we need to do something to make adoption easier and better not only in the United States, but all over the world. I. INTRODUCTION A. Attention material/Credibility Material: In my last speech, I told you about some of the problems with the foster care system and how I was an eight-month-old baby that was placed in the foster care system. I don’t know much about my biological parents and I don’t know if I really want to know.
There has always been a way for children to be cared for in the United States. In the early 1800s orphan asylums were the most popular way for homeless children to be taken care of. Then institutional care came around, where children were taught to grow up as quickly as possible. Placing-out was then created in the 1850s to use instead of the institutions. This form of foster care sent children to the western states to live in rural homes.
We all end up lucky or unfortunate. We get lucky with the parents that love and care for us, and unfortunate with the ones who do not want us, or don’t care for us. For foster kids, they go through several houses with several different families. Sometimes these families are not the ideal family, and there is abuse and neglect in these homes. Foster kids never really get a break until they are adopted by a loving family.
Have you ever thought about how it feels to be ripped out of the only place that you know as home? To get no explanation of why your parents just did not want you anymore? Not a lot of people think about this. Usually, the only people that do think about this is children that are experiencing or have experienced this problem. The children’s rights website stated that, “On any given day, there are nearly 428,000 children in foster care in the United States.”

Whether to continue or end a pregnancy, has been a long debated topic, extending long after the Roe v. Wade case that went all the way to the Supreme court (ProCon). Each year, over one million women in America chose to have an abortion (WebMD). What would happen if that right to choose was taken away?

Abortion has been performed for a long time. It was legal in the United States from the beginning it was created/founded. “At the time the Constitution was adopted, abortions were openly advertised and commonly performed. ”(History of Abortion) But in the mid-to-late 1800s some states began passing laws that made abortion illegal.
A mother stops to pick up some laundry. The mother parks the vehicle but turns the key so the radio would play for the family. While collecting the laundry the mother had a feeling something was wrong. The mother runs outside to find the daughter’s head rolled up in the window; the mother panics. The child’s face was blue, lips were purple, and foam was coming from the corner of the child’s mouth.
We live in a complex, unpredictable world, filled with an array of family styles and personalities. Whether or not we recognize it, the family in which one is raised or currently resides plays a pivotal role in their development and opportunities. While we should not blame our circumstance on where we came from, it is crucial that we understand how our childhood influences why we are the way we are. One phenomenon that affects several families, particularly ones with low-income, is parentification. Parentification, also known as the role-reversal of a parent and a child, is not inherently harmful for a child, but it is important to look at the situation objectively and consider the risk-factors.
Eugenics The term eugenics was coined in 1883 by Francis Galton. He defined it as the study of “the conditions under which men of a high type are produced” and also as “the science which deals with all influences that improve the inborn qualities of a race”. However, it is not just a field of study and, could be taken as a social movement or policy as well. “Eugenics” may refer to the theory that infers hereditable intelligence and fortune which are possessed by the wealthy, successful and intelligent were made as a result of their good selective breeding, and that the lower classes would remain so because they continued to breed with other poor people from lower social classes or casts. Growing up my parents ran a daycare in(at) our house so I was always surrounded by children (the good and the bad). My parents were the type who had no problem enforcing physical punishments such as spanking, the flick of the hand, a pop on the mouth, etc. All these punishments are within the definition of acceptable punishment as stated by Oklahoma law (qtd. ---). They practiced this on me, my siblings, and the daycare kids (with parental consent).
Abortion Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by abolishing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. Abortion is a very controversial topic, for example, one side of this topic believes abortion is cruel and committing murder, while the other side believes that since the fetus or embryo isn 't developed enough to be considered a living human being yet, that abortion is not commiting murder. Despite this information, there is a lot more to abortion than the opinion of it being “right” or “wrong”. According to “Students for life” who are pro life, about 1 million abortions are executed each year in the US. That data adds up to 22% of pregnancies ending in abortion.
Abortion is probably one of the biggest debates to date in the United State. The article was a pro-abortion article, and gave examples as to why it is a women’s right to choose. It was written by a doctor who shares the opinion that abortion is okay. There may be a time where it is necessary for a woman to have the choice to have an abortion or not. Those choices could include rape, or if the pregnancy will cause serious health issues to the mother.
Single parent adoption In today's society, one of the strongest controversy in the world today is over whether or not single parents should be allowed to adopt. Some believe it is socially acceptable for a single parent to adopt a child and that “single prospective adopters of both genders can have much to offer to an adopted child” (The Telegraph Tim Ross), others think that singles should not be able to adopt. In some eyes they see that a child needs two parents so a child can grow up having a mother and father figure to look up to, and by having two parents, one can fill in the other part when one is sick or tired or so on.
