The stresses and strains that are put on young adults today is getting out of hand. I would like to be that resident assistant helping that girl, and I feel that I could fill this potential position. Working as a Resident Assistant has many benefits and potential positive outcomes. Some of these include the ability to meet new people as well as getting to know them better, being a mentor to residents, and learning from the people you are mentoring or meeting.
In the last several years, colleges, administrators, faculty, and staff have observed the growing number of adult students enrolling in classes. In Pellissippi State Community College’s case, this is largely due to programs such as Tennessee Reconnect, which allows adult students to return for a higher education to gain skills to complete their degree programs. Contemporary education research has observed numerous obstacles that adult learners encounter when returning to school. Consequently, since these nontraditional scholars have recently come back, they are struggling more with technology-dominant classrooms compared to their traditional counterparts. The other unique issue these learners are facing is time management.
Accelerated education programs must be fueled with many components for the system to run smoothly. These various components must have the students as the main focus to be successful. Additionally, the accelerated education model will not work unless teachers and students are on the same page with their personal goals. When there is poor classroom management , no teacher support, and poor student effort the model will fail. Going to an accelerated education school with poor student effort and poor teacher support will not help your child succeed, if anything it will hold them back.

The first of these categories relates to the goals of self-directed learning. Merriam (page 107) lists three goals but of concern to the HRD is the goal that seeks to foster the adult to be self-directed in their own learning. This suggests that adult learners are at different levels of self-directedness and that some may require support. Such support can come in many forms such as ‘helping learners do needs assessments, locating learning resources, choosing instructional methods, and evaluating strategies’ Merriam p107.
