The history of the United States of America is vast and complex, encompassing thousands of events that all helped form it into a modern day superpower. When reflecting on the history of America, many historians remind us of major events that changed the course of the country's development. Many authors of these works analyze American historical events through the perspective of the people living through that event or through a 21st-Century viewpoint. However, there are fewer authors who are able to successfully illustrate more about an event than what can be visibly seen or inferred by a reader. Mark Feige, a history professor and writer, is one of the few authors who is able to uncover additional information in American history.
I have learned so much from my high school american history course so far and I’m genuinely shocked by how interesting the information we are learning is. When I generally think about history it bores me but when I started learning about history this year everything changed. I think it’s very important to know history because without those historic events we quite possibly wouldn’t be where we are today. So that’s what I will be trying to do.

In the North economic development pushed towards industrialization, the creation of a market system, and a transport revolution. These economic developments flourished due to the high amount of immigrants moving into the area. The South however, was very different as it continued its growth of slavery and the cotton economy. The white landowners of the South pushed for less laws surrounding slavery and the African American slaves were forced to deal with hardships pertaining to their family, religion and the suffering from slavery .
Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States offers great educational value, not only on history itself but on how history is typically taught, how it should be instead portrayed, and the arguments that arise as a result. Such a controversial book can bring up many different opinions and analyses. Zinn’s purpose in writing A People’s History of the United States was to share history from a perspective different from that which we typically read. “Too much history, he contends, is written ‘from the point of view of governments, conquerors, diplomats, leaders.’ His People’s History, by way of contrast, sides with the losers, the downtrodden, the underdog” (Zinn XVI).
US History Essay Quiz 11.3 October 14, 2014 During the first quarter of US History, I could learn a lot about the history of The United States of America, since the time when it started just with colonies, lead to wars which ended up with revolutions, and a series of events that are important to history. In the first spot, I would like to remark how important it is to know about history, because it’s clearly the reasoning of why events happened, what their causes were, and was was it all about. In each of the events, there were important leaders who took initiatives of change, in a point where they realized it was necessary. The study of AP United States History will provide a much greater understanding of how our country came to rise. Because I have been studying United States history since 8th grade, learning more material will certainly enhance my knowledge of United States history. Through reinforcement by previously learned material, as well as learning new material, this study will give me a great insight to my understanding of how our country evolves. Moreover, having a knowledge of United States History will prepare me for future endeavors, as the study of history is essential to move forward in society. There is a common saying, “History repeats itself”, and if one were to disagree on that, then they must concur on the fact there are numerous parallels when looking at history. The Boston Massacre taken place in 1770 and the Kent State shooting, nearly 200 years later, hold many symmetries, from the protests that required authority to intervene to the result of having tragic shootings. Of course, the two events are not absolutely alike as each has their own unique circumstances, but both are well remembered in American History. On April 30th, 1970, President Nixon announced the need to draft 150,00 more soldiers for the Vietnam war effort.
Throughout history America has had hundreds of transformative events that have changed the course of history through political, economic, and sociocultural effects. The most significant events aren’t the ones everyone remembers for being exciting but rather the ones that have impacted society and individuals the most. Many of these events that have shaped America most profoundly include wars, presidents, supreme court decisions, but they also include such events such as natural disasters, fires, and even scientific findings. Each event has not only impacted the time period it was set in but also may even still be impacting our lives today. States have been removing or hiding history from students. In Denver, students are protesting about a school board review which wants to “[ensure] that teaching materials present positive aspects of the U.S history” and promote citizenship” (Wallace n. pag.).Tulsa Race Riot history is an important U.S. history event which hasn’t been incorporated into many textbooks, even though there were “dozens of deaths [and] hundreds of injuries” and also the destruction of Greenwood which later results in students poor knowledge of where they came from (Hoberock n. pag.). In Texas, it is being taught that slavery was just a side issue of the Civil War because guidelines for teaching American history do not include the teaching of the Ku Klux Klan or Jim Crow Laws. This gives a false impression to students.
