You don’t want to be foreigners in your own land...using a different Canadian dollar and passport. Don’t give up the privilege of being called a Canadian as you’ll be loosing all the advantages that come with it. The theme of unity: Chrétien always refers to himself with and alongside his citizens. On top of this, Chrétien thoroughly highlights the importance of unification and continuously welcomes Quebecers into his speech by using inclusive language such as we, us, our fellow quebecers.
Bill C-24 introduces reforms that undermine the fundamental rights of many Canadians and presents more difficult requirements for applicants. Under the former Act, citizenship applicants only needed to reside in Canada for three out of four years which is a minimum of 1,095 days. The current Act introduces a more lengthy residency requirement by requiring applicants to be physically present in Canada for four out of six years, and applicants must also provide an “intent to reside” statement (Citizenship and Immigration Canada, 2014, February 6). The former Act barred applicants who had domestic criminal charges and convictions. The current Act expands the bar to applicants with foreign criminal charges and convictions (Citizenship and Immigration Canada, 2014, February 6).
Considering that there are more advantages to joining Confederation than disadvantages, Ontario should do so. There are a number of reasons why Ontario should join Confederation that will help the province. Ontario will be able to profit from Confederation's political, economic, and social advantages by joining. If a province experiences a political deadlock, there is a possibility that the government will split along party lines, and the legislative discussions will become controversial.
The first requirement applicants should ensure they meet is the possession of Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status. Permanent resident status may be achieved by residing in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years. Individuals may apply at the age of eighteen and begin the training process, but cannot be hired as a police officer until they are nineteen years old. All applicants must be fluent in English or French, possess a Canadian secondary school diploma or complete an equivalency assessment, and have an unrestricted Canadian driver’s licence. The standard of living is one of the highest in the world, it welcomes new immigrants, and there are many personal freedoms which are questioned in other parts of the world. Here, there is a Charter of Rights and Freedom that protects our individual rights. This charter, which came to be in 1982, is the basis of our Canadian society. I personally view the Canadian identity as a topic which may never truly be set in place as the world grows and new influences arrive, yet at the very same i see it as revolving around the set traits that the first peoples and nations(Aboriginals, French, British, etc.) brought and held, whether it be their spiritual, political, lingual, and cultural views. Major parts of the Canadian identity also arise from non-human factors, such as geography, the land in Canada influences the jobs of the people as well as where everyone is displaced. Canada is considered the second largest country in the world, this causes the Canadian identity to differ slightly depending on where one lives. The identity of a Candian can be summed up from the Charter of Rights and freedoms and each person is entitled to in Canada. In a way, the Charter outlines the key values and beliefs that the people hold.
Ontario’s minimum wage has hit an all-time high of $11.00 an hour in June of 2014. Jobs have been also steadily have been becoming available after the repercussions of the 2008 economic recession. But even with the good news there are issues that still need to be fixed for the middle class and working class families of Ontario. The government and various financial companies have been fighting more to compensate for the higher cost of living in Ontario. The general fact is that minimum wage has steadily increased slowly over the last few decades, while the cost of living has skyrocketed.
(2016), written by Chelsea Vowel. Very informative. Admittedly, I previously had very baseline knowledge about the uniqueness of Métis, Inuit, and First Nations peoples. This piece taught me that there are three steps required in order for someone to legally identify as Métis. In order to identify, individuals must self-identify as Métis, have ancestral ties to a Métis community, as well as receive acceptance from a modern Métis community (Vowel, 2016).
-“I am a Canadian, a free Canadian.” This statement is found in the Canadian Bill of Rights which was made to ensure equality for all Canadians, disregarding their race, religious beliefs and other factors like where they live or work. The foundation of the Bill of Rights happened right after the Second World War when John devoted himself to assuring all Canadians equal rights irrespective of their
While never as massive as Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon, Star Fox has been one of Nintendo's flagship series for over two decades. It all started in 1993 with a revolutionary game that brought 3D gaming to the masses. The first game in the Star Fox series actually had its roots in a prototype called NESGlider, that was being developed for Nintendo's first home console, the Nintendo Entertainment System. The prototype was inspired by a game named Starglider, released in 1986 for the Atari ST, Commodore Amiga, MS-DOS, and Apple II, among other platforms.
In the year 1857, under the gradual civilisation act, enfranchisement was introduced and became an option for the indigenous population of Canada. Enfranchisement was to lose the status of being indigenous, either by choice or by force. It was assumed that the Indigenous people would agree to surrender their indigenous status in order to gain the ‘privilege’ of Canadian citizenship. The granting of voting rights could be viewed as a symbol of equality and inclusion. However, for indigenous communities, the prospect of enfranchisement comes with many negatives.

The Pestilence, named The Black Death in the 16th century, was one of the deadliest afflictions in history(Noymer, Andrew. “Contesting the Cause and Severity of the Black Death: A Review Essay.” Population and Development Review, vol. 33, no. 3, 2007,). Because of safety concerns, many states have increased the age at which teens can begin to drive. Teens need to have their own experiences. Driving at sixteen is a great way for teens to indulge in experiences and start a more independent life. The driving age should not be raised because driving gives one freedom, driving allows teens to work, and driving teaches responsibility.
