Imagine yourself in the position of a high school senior opening up your admission letters in front of your parents to find out whether you got accepted or not to those colleges you sent applications to. You find out that two colleges, that you value equally the same, have admitted you into their respective college system, in which one of the colleges is in-state and the other being out-of-state. It seems as if you were put into a crossroads between the two, each of them having a different journey storyline tied to them, and it is only a matter of time before both of your parents decide to ask you, “Where will you go?” This decision is almost inevitable when you close into your
AP classes are said to be very hard, of course very challenging, and that they suck the living life out of you. However, regardless of that, I still choose it, because I believe that the more of writing skills you have, the better. I can’t have enough of English skills, because there is always something I can improve on. With all the different literary techniques, I can write better essays.
As a former AP Lang student, I feel that this class has been very beneficial for me in that it has allowed me to apply the techniques and strategies I learned last year toward more relevant subjects. Having the freedom of choosing topics to write about for our various essays made this class more enjoyable than the other English classes that I have taken. AP Lang focused heavily on the techniques of writing solid essays, but instead of writing about useful topics, we analyzed the short stories provided on the exams. Writing a personal narrative essay was very helpful in my college application process and allowed me to employ the same kind of strategies that I learned in class into my college essays.
I believe continued education is the best. Upon graduating high school, students are faced with reality of attending college right away or waiting to try and find themselves in the real world. Those who are not academically nor financially prepared to attend college right after high school will most likely take a break. Taking long breaks from education can distract one and may lead to taking more than one year of a break. While taking a break from school before going to college, may cause some people to become young parents, then going back to school will not be a priority because now the main focus will be about their child.
The reason that I’m taking AP Literature is because I would like to understand different style of writing and how the author tries to sway the audience with their words. Another reason that I decided to take this class is because I want to be able to write better essay and learn how to get my point across without making it harder for people to understand. I also want to make a difference in the world with my words which has a big impact on people. I want to be able to write my story of what I have been through and how it has impacted my life but has made me stronger than I was before, and that anyone get through anything if you have support from others. I also am not taking the class for college credit but it would be nice to have it.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
College tuitions is worth the cost. Mary C. Daly, vice president of Federal Reserve Bank said “that overwhelming evidence that a bachelor’s degree gives people a financial leg up”. Which means that if you go to college you have more of a chance getting the job you want verse not going to college and not getting the job you want. Peter Cappelli a management professor at University of Pennsylvania Wharton School said “students on average earn more money that people who stopped their education after high school”. Tuitions is not all we need to worry about if you can get a college scholarship in almost anything you put your mind to help pay for college.
I found out that I loved novels that somehow tied into life happening all around me. I learned how to visualize what I was reading and ask questions that helped me dive deeper into my own way of thinking. As far as AP English being a bad experience I was pushing the envelope a little bit. It was a bad experience because I made it one. I was not aware of how much work it would take to be in an AP English class.
However, as a teaching assistant, I had to retrieve past recollection of the course material and organize them in a logical, coherent manner for some else. For example, one of my teaching assistant duties involved conducting online test reviews. I now have a greater knowledge of the course material from conducting online test reviews. Before the teaching assistance experience, I had an unreasonable expectation of when I believed a test or a paper grade should be completed.
I learned that any barrier you face there is always an option to overcome it and be successful. I can grow by working my hardest on my school work and never giving up, even when things get hard. I also learned that time management is a very great skill to obtain at this time in my life, because college courses take time, effort, and lots of patience. I must give myself time to prepare for class work and especially exams. Having a schedule for my school work and my personal life is the best choice to help me stay on track.
