State snapshots provide state-specific health care quality information, which includes strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. The goal is to help state officials and their public and private sector partners better understand the quality of medical care and the disparities in their state.
State leaders can use this tool to measure the performance of the quality of health care in their state.
This tool will help leaders:
-Determine the performance of your state in more than 250 measures of quality of medical care.
-Compare the quality of medical care of your state with all other States.
-Identify high performance States for the creation of networks and the exchange of best practices.
-Locate the weaknesses in the quality

The easy access to individual measures helps the States to identify with greater precision their strengths and weaknesses, highlighting specific areas of improvement.
This tool can be used by:
- State health officials and executive branch officials such as state health departments, Medicaid officials, state employee benefits managers, etc.
-The elected leaders of the state, governors and legislators.
- State and local nongovernmental health leaders such as professional societies, provider associations, hospital associations, quality improvement organizations, voluntary health organizations, health plans, business coalitions, community organizations and consumer groups.
State snapshots are available online. The data is shown in easy-to-read graphs and in detailed and customized tables for each state.
The state-level information used to create the State Snapshots is based on the data collected for the National Quality Report and Disparities in Health Care. These data are updated annually, allowing States to track their annual progress in the various measures.
