The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP)
The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project is a group of different types of databases and other software tools. Also known as HCUP, this project was developed by a Federal-State-Industry partnership and is supported by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). HCUP databases are a derivative of administrative, clinical and non-clinical data. The information enclosed are patient demographics, diagnoses, treatments and procedures, discharge status, and financial charges.
