Introduction
Emergency care service has become significantly important in Medical care sector. Patients normally go without any prior appointments and thus it is extremely difficult to analyze the cost structure involved in it. Exact estimations are very essential as Emergency care sector are shifting the business operation model from a payment of fee for service to payments for a group of customer population. There are various methodology that been used to identify the exact cost structures associated with Emergency care service of the total health care sector.
Current Methodology
The analysis is first done to estimate the total percentage of spending done on Emergency department (ED) care as a percentage of total spending done on nation’s health care which turned out to be 1.9 percent that is $48.3 billion spending out of total spending of $2.6 trillion, which didn’t included the count of ED visits and the count of ED patients of the hospital.

The cost also changes according to inflation thus it becomes very complex and difficult to estimate cost associated.
Alternative Methodology
The alternative method suggested the use of Time driven activity based modeling. This method take into consideration all the activity involved in patients treatment (Administrative, Infrastructure, Doctor, Pathology) and cost is assigned to each activity based on the time and resources involved in each tasks. It also helps to identify the cost based on the type eg Clinic, Hospitals and Special care.
Outcome
This analysis also acknowledges that the higher cost may be the result of cost associated with some of the unnecessary, care service. It also shows that with 130 million patients that is around 28 percent of the total health care patients Emergency medicines accounts a large part of total health care
