Deal or No Deal?

Adver-Marketing is a marketing company that was founded in 2002 in Toronto, Canada. The company’s goal is to get other companies to hire them in order to market their product or service in various professional ways. Adver-Marketing guaranteed that if other companies invested in them they would make more profits and get more clients since it was owned by a team of marketing experts who had a lot of experience in the advertising field and graduated from the top universities. Adver-Marketing started out by helping out small companies since they weren’t well known and had to climb up the ladder. Luke, having an Egoist point of view, wants to do what benefits him and disregards other people around him as long as it’s good for him. He also wants to take Chris’s spot as manager. If Luke tell Chris to go on with the advertising contract and just do it then Chris will remain team leader because his job won’t be jeopardized and therefore Luke won’t be able to take over his job. As an egoist, Luke doesn’t care about people’s health if they think the yogurt is healthy because he thinks only about himself, therefore under those circumstances Luke will tell Chris to go ahead and do the advertising for Quebec milk because Chris will get in trouble and maybe get fired and Luke will take over his place. The second opinion that Chris asked for was from his other team mate named Maria. She has a Utilitarian point of view, so when Chris presented the situation to her, the first concern she had was the harm it would do to everyone who ate the product. If they decide to go ahead and market it, then everyone who buys the product will become unhealthy and have health problem compared to only one person (Chris) getting in trouble. Therefore, Maria told Chris that the best ethical decision to make would be to refuse the deal and if he gets fired, to go find another job somewhere else. Chris didn’t know what to do at this point because he has a family to support and he has to pay for his kid’s private school but at the same time he would be lying to thousands of people. Chris finally brings in his last team mate named Jacob. He tells Jacob his situation and Jacob’s first reaction is to refuse the deal because he believes in Veganism but more importantly he believes that harming people’s health and the environment as well is wrong.
