The potential for temporary shelter, in terms of function are limitless and broad. The primary function of temporary shelter is to accommodate for a large quantity of people that have been displaced from their home environment for a small period of time. A primary example of temporary sheltering systems can be seen in disaster recovery.

Semi-Permanent shelter, whilst similar, is defined as a completely different system. Semi-permanent shelter is when accommodation is required for an indefinite period of time, and facilities are implemented to accommodate for these people for extended periods of time.
