Argumentative Speech Essay

I am an African American, like many of you that are here today. Thank you for taking your time to listen to me, and consider what I may say to your own way of thinking. I know that some of the things that I say may be wrong to some or may be right to some, but know that you are the one who can really decide what is best for yourself and everyone around you. With that in mind I want to talk about our future. Not as a separate being from the rest, but as a community for all. Which means that we are cut off from the growing industries. I can give you an example of this from the text I read by Charles W. Chesnutt in “The Disfranchisement of the Negro.” This said that, “The colored people are left, in the States where they have been disfranchised, absolutely without representation, direct or indirect, in any law-making body, in any court of justice, in any branch of government…” In another text by Booker T. Washington “Atlanta Exposition Address” states, that, “To those of my race who depend on bettering their condition in a foreign land or who underestimate the importance of cultivating friendly relations with the Southern white man, who is their next-door neighbour, I would say: “Cast down your bucket where you are”—cast it down in making friends in every manly way of the people of all races by whom we are surrounded.” What does this all mean you might wonder. Well this is telling how African Americans are not brought up like the white folk. It is also telling that the white people feel insecure about other races, but when we work towards helping others and they see that kindness. They would offer to also be helped by others and would make new friends that they couldn’t
