From 1815 to 1850, many issues occurred including the racial prejudice of African Americans and unfairness towards women. Starting at the beginning of this time period, African Americans were either born into, or later sold into slavery. On the other hand, women were treated unfairly because they had much less rights than men had. For example, women were deprived of their natural rights and were unable to vote, work in the fields, or own property. The U.S. did not fulfill the ideals of the Declaration of Independence for all people by 1850 because, slavery was still going on and women's rights were not fully accepted into the society.
Women and African Americans were given more rights such as the right to vote and slavery was abolished after the revolution. Political changes involved Americans truly separating from Britain by destroying any ties they had with the country and it also involved Americans stating their political beliefs and changes which were different from what they were taught by the British. Later in the war, the Confederacy ran short on men and were in need to supply soldiers, leaving no choice but to enlist the colored men. Not only were African American men impacted from the war, but African American women also served to supply and aid in the war.

They then went on to contribute to the economic and social development of the South and America. African Americans survived the institution of slavery and Africanized the American South. They helped free themselves by sticking together as a family, resisting, as well as wanting slavery to change.
