Novas Agency Profile In this essay I will be speaking about the organisation Novas which is a well-known Irish organisation that deals with homelessness and certain drug abuse across the country. I will go into detail about who they are, what they do and about some of the services that they provide. What is Novas: It is a voluntary organisation which works with families and single adults who are disadvantaged and socially excluded: mainly those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. (Novas, 2017) Who They Are: Novas opened its first service in Ireland in 2002 in order to help homeless people. Since 2002, the organisation has grown, with new services being added each year. This service was opened in 2002 and became the country's first direct access emergency facility. It has reduced the amount of people sleeping rough on the streets of limerick city and has provided shelter for them. McGarry house provides temporary supported accommodation for 30 men and women who find themselves homeless in the city of Limerick. It is home to some of the country's most socially excluded individuals such as those who took part in alcohol and drug misuse, victims of sexual and physical violence and people with mental health issues and challenging behaviour. One of McGarry's house main values is they treat everyone with absolute respect and accepts their clients as they are. The project offers a service on a 24-hour basis and does not have a curfew. This makes clients to feel more independent and secure on a day to day basis. The client is referred to the service which is most suited to their individual need ensuring the most comfort to the individual as possible. Care plans are given to the residents of McGarry house in order for them to care for themselves to the best of their ability. McGarry house also provides long term accommodation, with support, for 37 residents which include one, two and three bed apartments. This provides the individual of feeling independent which the workers still offer support and life-skills where required. McGarry house also provides a 'Cold Weather Service' which ensures no one is refused entry to the service during the winter weather, even if all beds are occupied people will always be welcomed.
