The U.S. lost the war in Vietnam not to just a reason, but to a few reasons that occurred; a reason they lost the war in Vietnam was because the troops that the U.S. had sent in were troops to invade, while Vietnam were fighting on their territory. Although the U.S. were the ones to declare war at Vietnam they were not fully committed to sending fighting troops in to fight in the war, thinking that invading troops could do it. Agent Orange was a various mixture of many chemicals combined together to expose the hidings of the Northern and Viet Cong Troops throughout the forest, also to exterminate those plants and herbs that they may use that are consumable and of use to the Vietnamese army. From the years of 1961 to 1972 many acres of Vietnam land were sprayed with Agent Orange, approximately over 19 millions gallons were used across 4.5 million acres. Alongside Agent Orange it was a war of attrition, back and forth trying to make one another weaker with simple plans as weakening them would strengthen and conquer the other. They waited one another out, the U.S. had plans of destroying their hidings spots and plants they’d use as a food source so they would be hungry and less prepared for combat. Lyndon B. Johnson asking Congress for the permission of sending more troops into Vietnam, and Southeast Asia. Congress allowed it, they also granted him the permission to command and he wishes as long it is a necessity for the war and beneficial to the troops. Spraying much of agent orange helping the troops get a better visual of the land and somewhat weakening their enemy limiting their food supplies. The Vietnamese gathered fruits and berries from the plants near them to stay energized and prevent them from being too weak to fight the enemy, but once the U.S was able to enter with the agent orange the Vietnamese soldiers lost a lot of food supplies and lost some of their hiding positions. The war began with an alert from the two U.S. destroyers docked at the Gulf of Tonkin, they were attacked by North Vietnamese troops. What the U.S. did not know or were confused about was were they in Vietnam waters, or were they in a different area near Vietnam waters? Having several incidents occurring President Lyndon B.
