For this meeting Donna and I discussed the topic of aging well. We discussed our views on what aging well meant to us and how to achieve a successful life. I also performed a SPICE assessment as well as a Mini Nutrition Assessment (MNA) on Donna and we discussed different intervention to approach potential difficulties. Since it was our first official meeting after the introduction, Donna and I had a conversation to continue to get to know each other as well to further our trusting relationship. Through our discussion, I was able to learn more about Donna as well as gather a further background on her as well as her quality of life and how she improves it. We discussed her social communications with her friends, family, and community. Our conversation made me reflect back to the first Gerontological class where we were to discuss our views on the elderly (site). My views our mostly based on my own grandparents, however, after talking with Donna, my views towards the elderly population changed even more. I viewed being “old” as being active a couple days a week and having a lot of relaxation. Donna taught me however, that even as we get older, our schedules can still remain quite busy. I believe it is important to relax, that socializing is very important, and that we need to find the thing that drives us to be satisfied. I do also enjoy music and cultural events, however not as much as Donna. I also believe aging well is living life to the fullest. That when I look back at my life, I will not have many regrets or I will accept the disappointments that have been thrown at me. Finally, for me, aging well means being able to get out of bed and be mobile including able to walk over five miles a day and to be happy with myself and have a positive outlook on
