The Lifetime Story on Aileen Wuornos Aileen Carol Pittman was born February 29, 1956, to parents, Diane Wuornos and Leo Dale Pittman in Rochester, Michigan. Mrs. Wuornos married Mr. Pittman at age 15. Aileen was not the only child; she had an older brother Keith. Due to being incarcerated, Mr. Pittman did not get to witness Aileen’s birth. At age 15, Aileen was burdened with the responsibility of two children and no husband in the home. Eventually, this took a toll on Diane Wuornos and she chose to give up her motherhood and abandoned her two children Aileen and Keith ("Aileen Carol Wuornos #805," n.d). She discovered the two people she believed to be her parents all this time were really her grandparents. She discovered her mother had abandoned her and she never got to meet her biological father. He was in prison suffering from schizophrenia and charged with child molestation of a seven-year-old girl. He hung himself while in prison when she was 13 years old ("Aileen Carol Wuornos #805," n.d). Although her grandparents took her in as their own, the household environment was definitely not what one would typically imagine, staying at their grandparents’ home. Aileen’s grandmother, Britta was known to be an abusive alcoholic and her grandfather Lauri was abusive, physically and sexually toward Aileen and Keith. Her grandfather would beat her and would make her strip off her garments before sexually assaulting her (Biography.com, 2015). Due to her explosive eruptions for no apparent reason and lack of social skills, Aileen had very few friends. She was very close with her brother, and they would run off together when their grandfather was on a rampage.
