In Tim Obrien’s text, Where have You Gone, Charming Billy?, the author invokes the theme of relative fear, what might be frightening for some may not be so for others. Private First Class Paul Berlin was new and inexperienced, being in an actual war is scary in itself. Even with training and practice you can never tell what will happen in an actual field of battle. The story shows how scary the war was. Paul Berlin experienced his fears throughout the entire story.
The feeling that can't be seen, called love, makes us irrational and helps us through tough times. In the Poem "Ode to Northern Alberta" by Billy-Ray Bellcourt we explore the pain and suffering conquered by love while also looking at how we make decisions based on emotions that may not be able to be explained. The poem's start introduces us to love and how people use it to cope without creating a setting. It states, "love keeps us busy while the smoke clears.". This starts off by showing the importance of love and how we use it to cloud our minds from pain and suffering, in this case, the hardships Indigenous people are going through caused by oppressors.
On October the 19th, I saw the performance of Love/Sick written by John Cariani, at the Hyman Fine Arts Center theatre on the Francis Marion campus. The play was made up of nine approximately ten minutes long scenes where two people were experiencing either personal or love problems. The various scenes ranged from two strangers kissing in the supermarket, to a husband and wife that were going out for supper because they were “hungry”. I thought of the purpose behind this play was to show the audience by using many different love scenarios that no relationship is perfect. It does not matter what stage of the relationship that you are in, problems can occur.
In David Brooks’ argument in “The New Romantics,” he explains the new romanticism that will come to our world in the near future. He thinks that computers are going to be able to do a lot of cognitive task that no human can compete with the computer. Even though humans are improving our cognitive skills, it will no longer good enough because the computer can be doing most of all things that human can not do well in coming future economy. Only humans are able to do is a task that is emotional. I agree with his argument.
In the stories love:hate is created and shown through the stories. The themes in the stories and poems all have to face some type of love:hate. The central theme “love:hate” is found in the work of Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes and Claude Mckay. In the story “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston, the wife Delia was a hardworking wife to a violent husband who didn’t do anything all day and would beat her.
In a society where songs with meaningless lyrics and repeated phrases gathers the most publicity, it is surprising to find songs that exhibit meaningful lyrics and thoughts. Unlike most hip-hop songs that contain useless repeated lyrics, Kanye West’s 2008 hit “Heartless” contains lyrics full of meaning. After producing this song, he was starting to approach the zenith of his career. This song became an instant hit for not only its soothing beats or sounds, but for its impactful lyrics that take the listener multiple attempts to really understand. This song tells the story of a tragic breakup between two individuals that cannot seem to get along.
The love is categorized as a deeming and damning affection therefore mastering the hardship of what love is or is perceived to be. Looking at the first stanza, one is able to notice that it starts off very romantically. In line 1 the poet, Cynthia Zarin, refers to her man as ‘My heart’ and ‘my dove’. ‘My heart’ indicates how much the poet’s lover means to her as a heart is sustenance for life. How to Live According to Irving Singer Throughout Irving Singer acclaimed trilogy, The Nature of Love, the viewer can observe how he unveils rich insight into fundamental aspects of human relationships through literature, the complexities of our being, and the history of ideas. In his sequel, The Pursuit of Love, Singer approaches love from a distinct standpoint; he reveals his collection of extended essays where he presents psychological and philosophical theories of his own. The audience can examine how he displays love as he systematically maps the facets of religion, sexual desire, love from a parent, family member, child or friend. Irving explores the distinction between wanting to be loved and wanting to love another, which ultimately originates from the moment an individual is born.
Crazy, Stupid, Love “Crazy, Stupid, Love” is a heartfelt romantic comedy, released in 2011, starring great actors such as Steve Carrel, Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. This is the best movie I have ever seen in my whole life. I still remember the first time I watched it, I loved it so much that I wanted to watch it a second time. It is a winning combination of wit and charm. I know this movie so well that I learned all the lines by heart and I must say I even use some of them in real life.
When the reader goes to find deeper meaning in her poems, it comes out to be a very personal and emotional piece of writing. Her poem “Sex Without Love” can connect the reader personally with society. A lot of people in the world are obsessed with the act of having sex. Heading back to the word “desire," we know that this word plays an important part in “Fire and Ice”. This word is closely associated with love and it has many other sides: commitment, affection, and responsibility, to name a few. Desire is the fundamental emotion when it comes to love, but it can also be destructive. In "Fire and Ice” the poem argues that desire could bring about the end of the world. There are many different forms desire takes, the first being a car, but romantic desire is the most powerful.
Ugly Love Ugly love is such a nice novel to read with somehow can happen in reality even if it’s a Fiction Novel. The book is a story more of the issues happening to our society such as love being hard to find and sex being easy to find. Ugly love like “ love that is ugly means lust is beyond happiness and lust is more spoken and active” Ugly love is a novel about love that is like no strings attached but more of like being friends with benefits and the trust, love and hope for a good future ahead. The Genre is more of Romance because of how they develop from strangers who Miles being drunk outside Tate’s room because he broke up with Rachel and then Tate became merciful to put a Drunk Miles
Throughout the text, the speaker uses a diverse array of literary techniques to demonstrate the multidimensional nature of their love towards a lover. First, passionate love is conveyed in the spatial metaphor of loving with “the depth and breadth and height my soul can reach.” Here, love is a substance that fills up and infatuates the speaker, creating a powerful drive that forces her to express it. This spatial love is overwhelming and grand, which establishes the passionate and fervent tone of the poem.
All music has multiple functions. While music can preserve artistic value, it can also simultaneously tell a story, bring people together, historicize, heal, and rejuvenate. Most importantly, however, it sends a strong message and stimulates strong emotions to the listener. The song, “Where is the Love” by The Black Eyed Peas, performs all of these functions. The beginning of my cadet career was full of interest, albeit, questions certainly swirled in my mind. All I had known about the Air Cadet Program previous to joining was from second hand sources.
