Lockdown is a thriller which is about a young teenager trying to survive and escape the horror of “The Furnace” a maximum-security prison deep underground for young offenders filled with psychopaths and gangs while showing a dark, gory, scary reaction to the readers, while shill showing some humor to the book. The book starts off with the main protagonist named Alex Sawyer grew up in a bad neighborhood and would rob people off the street and steal from houses.
They Cage the Animals at Night is a book written by Jennings Michael Burch in 1985.The book was based on true events that occurred in his life during the late 1940’s and early1950’s. Burch described the hardship of his life from staying at foster institutions and foster homes. They Cage the Animals at Night was not only a depiction of Jennings Burch’s life, but it also showed the way children had to face physical and emotional abuse in the foster care system. A large portion of the book revealed and described the rigorousness that Jennings faced alone. His experience of emotional and physical abuse exposed how children were treated like prisoners.

Cassandra sat down and began to unpack her things and then she stumbled across the journal her mother gave her. She all of a sudden felt really lonely and upset. When she finished unpacking her things into the small dresser she put the book under the pillow.

One day it finally hits him that he wants to get over his addiction so he calls Father Boyle asking if he would accompany him to get enrolled into a rehab center. Pedro is 30 days into his Rehab when he finds out his brother committed suicide while suffering from the same drug addiction. Father Boyle breaks the news to Pedro and picks him up from rehab to go to the funeral. There Pedro talks to Father Boyle about a dream where he is in a dark room, suddenly Father Boyle shows him the path to a light switch using a flashlight. Pedro knows he has to be the one to turn on the lights so he walks over and flips the switch.

Later on Sally and Esperanza go to the carnival, Sally leaves her alone to go with a boy. Esperanza is now by herself vulnerable and ends up getting raped. She realizes that boys are not what she thought they were, so she decides to focus on herself. Esperanza changes what she thought she wanted for the future.
