War is the only way to get control over countries who have less power than us. Where war bring people together in a country, it also teaches us to hate our enemy. No matter what age or gender, hate can be taught to anyone. In the story “The Chicken Which Became a Rat” by Albert Drake talks about how young children were taught to hate the enemy even if they live in the same town. Media also played a big role by printing paper and showing how to tell Japanese from Chinese. People who die in war, how newspaper would tell about heroes of the war in the Battle of the Bulge. People did recycling for the war. Finally, the war ended and the Jap was nowhere to be found. His plants had died and chickens had killed each other, only one survived.

The young boy and his friend pretend to be at war with the Jap neighbor. They would throw solid rocks at him and pretend to fire at him. The Jap was untouched by their mock attacks. A boy and his friend also broke the window of the Jap house which his dad later paid to fix. The young boy didn’t like when he heard that his dad paid to fix their enemies window. He told the boy that whatever Jap does on his land is none of his business and he should stay away from his place. The boy didn’t like that, he said he hated the jap but his father asks him if he can tell for sure he is jap from what’s written in the paper about japs and Chines and how to differentiate them. Even I didn’t know ;but I said yes. His father said, he had hard time in his life which you don’t know about its better to lay off him. He couldn’t understand how to leave him alone when newspaper, magazine and teachers taught us to hate him. Father believed that everyone should own land and a house and people should respect the ownership of that man. His father was unfit to serve in the military so he works building Liberty Ships. All the chicken was living together. When their owner left, they became hungry. It was war between them to survive and protect them self. When they were hungry they crack their eggs to get food. In the process being in war a lot of chicken get killed only stronger one survive. The author end the story with “of the folk, this was the victory.” He wanted to point out in our world only who survive the bad situation instead of all the people who gave up is the only one have success. That’s the same way propel do things when they have everything they love their neighbor and be friend with people. As soon some crises happen everyone want only to take care to their family their emotions for other disappears. If the situation get worse they won’t even care about their family.
