Have you ever messed up multiple times as a teenager? One teen named Alex Peter Gregory messed up big time. One car crash. Suddenly Alex is some kind of convicted felon. Alex is a typical sixteen year old high schooler, that plays in Jazz band. Until one night he starts to drink and gets drunk. That’s where Alex’s live had changed. Notes From The Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick was one of the most inspiring but yet very emotional to at any viewpoint, where anyone should read it. The book was very funny at parts but then again bittersweet. Alex’s two parents were soon to get a divorce, meanwhile his dad was dating his third-grade teacher. Whether you have siblings or not, dogs or cats, one guardian, family is family. Us as people set ourselves to succeed everyday, but the number one people to help us get there, is our family. In this book Alex’s and his father were not on much talking terms after him and his mother got separated and parted ways. But then Alex’s mother started to date again and soon to find out Alex found out she was dating his father again. Alex was in a rough spot and needed someone to talk to. One day, Alex had came back from Laurie’s house feeling the need to talk to his parents and when he did they worked everything out and hugged it out. “My mom stood up and hugged me then, and my dad got his arms around both of us. It was weird because we hadn’t ever been such a big huggy kind of family before. But it felt good, too” (Sonnenblick 240). As shown, you could get into arguments with your family but with a little love and courage it can take you far. Also, as Alex started to get much closer to Sol, he learned much more about him and his family. For instance, Sol had a wife named Ethel and a daughter named Judy. “One day my wife decides to drive up to Mountain Laurel, in the Poconos, to watch me play. Which she rarely does that often. But Judy was sleeping over a friends house so Ethel had probably felt lonely. In the of the big gig, I get a called to the hotel phone, saying Judy was at the emergency room with a high fever. This book was definitely a quick read. Alex showed so much growth from the beginning to end. In the beginning of book Alex wasn’t so much of a sensitive guy and just didn’t care but now ever since visiting the nursing home and talking to Sol, it’s really changed who Alex is and the type of person he is. By the end of story, yes, Mr. Solomon Lewis had passed away from pneumonia. But his memorial service was exactly what he would've wanted. “If Sol was in this room right now watching us he’d probably be saying to us ‘What a load of chazzerai! Who wants to hear this stuff now that I’m DEAD? Get out of here, go get some babka or something’” (Sonnenblick 260). The memorial was a very sad time, but everyone was swaying along as Alex played his jazz tunes to what Sol had taught
