“The cause of the gay rumor is twofold: Hamilton’s long relationship with the childless Washington and, much more persuasively, the affectionate letters young Hamilton wrote to his fellow officer John Laurens (1754–1782) during the Revolution (Hamilton 12).” Alexander Hamilton was one of the founding fathers who ran out of time. Though, he still had his chance to make an imprint in the revolution. A certain few facts are known as to how close his relationships got. Including one with his closest friend from South Carolina. Alexander Hamilton shows very romantic intentions towards John Laurens because of his charisma, letters, and history. Alexander’s charisma may have gotten in the way with his feelings towards John. It also got in the way of his relationships with many men, including other aide-de-camps under Washington. “It is worth noting here, however, how frequently people used the word feminine to describe Hamilton- the more surprising given his military bearing and virile exploits (Chernow).” Some of Hamilton’s closest relations were with his friends and Washington. “But for many years, he did have utmost trust and respect from the General, who called him “my boy” (Warren).” Alexander got …show more content…

Alexander always seemed to be a bit of a flirter, showing interest towards other men or women. He was very close with Angelica, despite the fact he married her sister Eliza. Although, as said before, nothing compared to how close he got with John Laurens. Even after his friend’s death, Hamilton had another affair with Maria Reynolds. “You published the letters she wrote you. You told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed, in clearing your name, you have ruined our lives (Miranda).” This showed that even Alexander could be his own enemy, second guessing if anyone knew about the affair.
