While many people believe homework helps build study habits and time management, most also believe that this homework needs to pertain to the material directly so that the students understand why they are doing the work. Studies done in the late 90s also showed that doing 30 minutes a night on average could increase a student 's GPA by up to half a point. Many people ask what homework benefits; is it even helpful? Is homework taking up students ' and teachers ' time and energy for no reason? Is the only real hesitation to moving away from homework because people are afraid of change? Many people say it is a good way for students to learn more and become efficient. On the opposing side, others believe homework causes more harm than good to students. On the pro-homework side, there is also disagreement about how much homework should be assigned. This has been cause for discrepancy for many years. The anti-homework side also appears to be gaining numbers among students and teachers across the country. Searches have stated that homework is more harmful than helpful. It causes stress, sleepless nights, and many other actual health effects. There has also been little agreement over the actual pros and cons of schools assigning homework. Some studies have shown that homework can help a student get better grades, while others have shown that it has no correlation to academic success. They also believe that the workload should be kept to a reasonable amount, making sure not to create too much stress for the students. In the higher-grade levels this leaves them going almost 5 hours of homework a night on average. Not to even mention 5 and 6 year olds are going up to 25 minutes of homework a night. homework causes frustration between parents and students. Homework is the number one cause of problems in children and teens. Homework can cause things like lack of sleep due to working late hours in the night, frustration, lack of engagement in school, the curiosity to explore things outside of the right mind, less time to go other interests like sports and other hobbies they may have, and it can also cause family problems.
