Algebra II begins with the acidic smell of vinegar lingering in the classroom, a remnant of previous classes. Desks are scattered through the classroom in disorderly rows and columns. There are no windows and fluorescent lights brighten up the room. Sounds from other classes drift through the walls as teachers begin their lessons. Attendance is taken and homework collected as class begins and a new lesson is started. There is always something new to learn or a concept to review, and no day is an easy day.

Accountability is key when it comes to succeeding in the classroom, and the teacher never lets us forget it. Hard work is rewarded with praise and laziness is greeted with a joking; “Don’t be lazy!” The teacher never ceases to challenge
