Alice in Wonderland Have you ever, like Alice, tumbled down a seemingly infinite, narrow, dark hole and stumbled upon a peculiar, whimsical universe, hidden from the prying, rigid eyes of Convention and Conformity? I have, and in this world, every second-every moment- is filled with adventure and intrigue. Resting in the nighttime sky, I have worked alongside Hercule Poirot as we pieced together the clues to solve the mystery on the Orient Express. Wrapped in a warm blanket of heat, I have screamed my heart out in a roaring stadium trembling with the ardent desire of wizards eager to have their House win the prestigious Cup. Under the shimmering light, with my strings of elegant pearls and rich peacock feathers, I have attended the glitzy and glamorous parties thrown by the debonair Jay Gatsby. I have travelled throughout the entire universe under my favorite sheets, holding a plastic book light as I navigate through hundreds of books. For as long as I can remember, reading books and stories has been my antidote to any problem I have faced. From my worn-out Nancy Drew mysteries to the more recent Percy Jackson fantasies sitting on my shelf, books have the unexplainable effect of taming my anger or comforting my overwhelming burden of grief. Till now, I have still not figured how an author's figment of imagination can have such a powerful impact on me or how a fictional piece of work can bring me so much peace and satisfaction. Perhaps it has something to do with its ability to strip me down- to tear away the labels, the societal expectations, and the incessant worry about the future- to my core.
