After reading Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Raven,” connotations were noticeably used. With love of writing horror and dark stories, Edgar Allen Poe wrote “The Raven” about a loss of a member of his life along with other miserable stories in his life. Dreary is an important connotation because it gives a dull, bleak, and lifeless like the poem expressed. In stanza one, the narrator mentions how dreary the midnight sky is. “Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,” continues the feeling of a dull tone to fellow readers.
In Project #1, I chose to make a rhetorical analysis of a chapter from Jason Fagone 's book Ingenious: A True Story Of Invention, Automotive Daring, And The Race To Revive America, "How to spend your entire income building a car to travel 100 miles on a gallon of gas. " The first chapter mainly focuses on two main characters: Kevin and Jen. Mr. Fagone introduces us to them by telling us how they both met, grew up, where they went to school and what for, where they worked, and how they started working together on building the car for X Prize. Now, since my goal for this blog is to see my progress and journey to becoming a better science writer, I started reading the chapter over and over. In the beginning, I thought that "Writing for Science"
The narrator of the poem is a bystander to what is happening in the square, and eventually due to his inaction is hung. The narrator describes, “And so we ceased, and asked no more … Then through the town the Hangman came and called in the empty streets my name” (Ogden 20, 22). The narrator is supposed to at first be seen as one with the group, referring to everyone as we, until he stands out by mentioning himself. So, the narrator was always the one at the end, but in the beginning, the narrator narrated as if they were the collective conscious thoughts of the group.
Then, Esha Dey does linguistic analysis of the novel. She quotes a few passages from the novel and dissects them word to word and line to line. She believes that Rao has linguistically used the devices of dehumanization, as Marxist belief ultimately requires a separation from nature, from the vital process of life. For example the description of Irene, the wife of Kirillov, reflects that her womanhood is negated, ‘Kirillov really loved Irene. She had the red blood, the red hair, the passionate index finger, and dialectics had drained her lust into irate channels.’

In the short story Us and Them, David Sedaris, American humorist and author, suggests that television and other advancing technological sources negatively impact society. He develops this claim by first setting the scene of an isolated lifestyle in the 1960s that changes to a more exposed lifestyle within civilization. Then, Sedaris depicts himself as a curious and self-centered little boy who explores a peculiar way of living through his next-door neighbor, the Tomkeys. Lastly, Sedaris displays the irony of greediness through his selfish actions toward his neighbors. Sedari's purpose is to stress how media has negatively affected our sociability with one another to reach an audience that may need to recognize the influence electronic platforms
The accompaniment is consistent and a driving force. It is meant to depict the first and fourth stanzas of the poem, in which the character dreams
Kathryn Stockett successfully uses rhetorical devices to get the reader to feel and understand the perspectives of the protagonists. Stockett uses pathos, ethos, and logos in her book, since the book about social injustice. The topics in the book range from inequality of the sexes to social classes and racism, Stockett is successful in getting the reader to reflect while reading the book and the themes of the book have a clear presence. We see Stockett use ethos and pathos in the very first chapters when we learn that Hilly doesn't like Minny and Minny doesn't want to say why at first, but the incident with Ms. Holbrook was affecting her chances of getting a job because of the influence Hilly has over this suburban society. In some instances where Stockett uses ethos, pathos is also included in her writing.
