All The Light We Cannot See

The one good thing about the struggles that you go through in life is that the best and worst of you is revealed. Changes in a person’s political structure, abilities, health, and family relations, can bring out the best in them by forcing them to adapt to their new conditions. The impacts could result in a person to be more ethical, dedicated, brave, or even selfish. The true version of them can be revealed whether it be good or bad. In All The Light We Cannot See Anthony Doerr proves that hardships reveal true character.
The novel started with one of the main characters a young, blind girl named Marie-Laure LeBlanc who lived with her father, Daniel, who was a key maker for a museum in Paris. He took Marie-Laure to the museum with him every day where she spent her time with Dr. Geffard, a researcher who studied mollusks and sparked Marie-Laure's …show more content…

The main proof of Werner being true to his self-values was when he defied the Orders of the Reich. Instead of him reporting Marie-Laure and Etienne, knowing that they would be killed, he decided to do the opposite. He helped to protect them because he thought that it was the right thing to do. He protected them by telling his fellow soldiers that he was only hearing static and turning off his transmitter whenever he heard them broadcasting. He also killed Von Rumpel when he was threatening to kill both Werner and Marie-Laure, showing that he thought that Von Rumpel was evil even though he was on Werner’s side, proving that Werner was still able to think for himself. These support the main point of the novel, that conflicts bring out a person’s true character, as Werner’s values are revealed during the novel as he was faced with making the decision between what he knew was right versus what the Reich would want him to
