Tenia Sanders EDUC 320: History, Principles, and Philosophy of Education Dr. Speight 03/01/2023 Plato’s Allegory of the Cave I learned a lot from the Greek Philosopher Plato and his words from the Allegory of the Cave. The Allegory is an interesting read with a unique video about it as well. Many great ideas have actually transpired from his Allegory of the Cave. Plato entails many different things that will require our minds to think deeply into what he was saying. There are many things that stuck out to me from the Allegory of the Cave that I will be speaking on alongside its relevance to society and in my opinion, his reason for writing it. For starters, I believe that Plato’s reason for writing the Allegory of the Cave is to encourage everyone in the world to venture out from the normal. As the Allegory of the Cave begins, Plato leads us to creating a visual in our head of a dark cave with no sunlight. Inside this dark cave, is fire and people chained to a wall seeing shadows. The shadows that the people see are created by the fire, thoughts on their minds, and what they believe others in the cave are saying. The only thing that the chained people in the cave have to look at is a bare wall, but if they ever turn around they will see an exit out of the cave. …show more content…

I also believe that it is saying we must let go of fears and worries about what others will have to say. Plato believes that everyone starts off in a cave, and he hopes that one day we can all make it out. In terms of society, I can see why Plato believes this. When we’re born, we all get the chance at something good in life. It is up to us to decide what we’re going to do with our lives; i.e., if we’re going to stay in a dark cave or use the light within to lead us out. I believe that our philosophies of life are what leads us out of our caves, and that the more we know, the more we are able to
