Background Information for The Diary of Anne Frank Until 1941, Adolf Hitler’s main purpose was to exile Jews from Germany, at this time, Hitler issued the order to exterminate--do away with--the Jewish race(“Adolf Hitler” Britannica School). Anne Frank and her family were forced to leave Germany because of Hitler and the Nazis. Leaving behind their homes, the Frank family learned to speak Dutch, and Otto started a new business(“Anne Frank: The Diary”). In 1935, everything changed for the family and all Jews living in Holland. Hitler created Nuremberg laws, which lessened Jewish and other minorities’ rights. Once Hitler attacked Poland, he forced many Jews into “ghettos”. Many people died in the ghettos from sanitation and overpopulation problems(“Holocaust” …show more content…

He was not accepted. Hitler wanted to join the military, so when WWl was being fought he petitioned King Louis lll to let him join. After WWl, Hitler was sent to spy on a new German Political group. He found out their views and joined. He rose through the ranks and joined the Nazi Party. When he joined the Nazi Party he quickly established himself as the new leader. Hitler and the Nazis soon tried to overthrow the Bavarian State Government but failed and Hitler ended up in jail. While in jail, Hitler wrote his autobiography, Mein Kampf ( My Struggle). When Adolf Hitler became chancellor of Germany, he quickly created “an absolute dictatorship”. Hitler soon was given full power from the Enabling Bill(“Adolf Hitler”). On November 9, 1938, Adolf Hitler started a riot against the Jews. Thousands of Jews were arrested and around a hundred died. This night was later called Kristallnacht(“Holocaust”). He used both propaganda and diplomacy to help his cause(“Adolf Hitler”). WWll began when Germany invaded Poland in September 1939. Germany invaded Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands in 1940. Germany tried to take Britain, but they defeated the attackers. President Truman allowed the use of an atomic bomb on Japan. Even after Hiroshima was bombed, Japan didn’t surrender - until Nagasaki was bombed. Germany attacked Russia in 1941. The German army was greatly weakened from the cold weather, so a lot were captured or ran away(Benson). When Hitler’s allies, the japanese , bombed Pearl Harbor, Hitler was forced to declare war on the U.S. He also changed his plans and tried to end “the unnatural coalition” between his enemies by forcing one to surrender(“Adolf Hitler”). The Battle of the Bulge happened in December 1944. The Allies attacked the German army on three sides destroying the army. Germany surrendered on May 7, 1945. With the end of WWll came a massive increase in the U.S. economy as well as being known as a world superpower. The U.S. tried to stay out of the war but joined when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The Axis powers had Germany, Italy, and Japan as well as Hungary, Bulgaria, and more. The Allies had the U.S., Britain, The Soviet Union, Canada, France, and more(Benson). The war had tilted
