When one is watching the film, The Matrix, the initial thought is not to seek Christian references. Instead, people are more inclined to see the movie for what it is at the surface; which is an action-packed film with an intriguing plot. For someone who has some background in Christian Theology, when thinking deeper about the film, it is not hard to pick up on the references. Right away in the beginning of the film there are already connections made through the main character’s name, Neo. Not only is the name Neo a rearranged form of the word one, but it also is defined as new. Furthermore, Neo meets a woman named Trinity and is contacted by Morpheus who is introducing Neo into a world new to him called the Matrix. Neo shows another strong characteristic like Jesus when he sacrifices himself in his lone fight against the agents. While Neo is fighting with the agents, he is shot multiple times and is dying. Although Neo is dead, Trinity has such a strong love for him that he comes back to life and is able to return to her. During this portion of the film, Neo shares even more resemblances to Jesus. For example, Trinity represents the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, which is what resurrected Jesus from the dead. Additionally, this entire scene is occurring in and around the room number 303. The room 303 shows another significance because Jesus was resurrected on the third day after his death. Once more, parallels are shown in the last scene of the film as Neo ascends into the sky. In comparison to Jesus, he also ascends, but into heaven. Again, the parallels between Jesus and Neo that are shown heavily toward the end of the film are easier to identify if one had background knowledge in
