• Misconceptions are commonly seen when the students create number pattern from performing subtraction. Even if they write a wrong number in the third position, the same mistake is likely to continue in all the numbers that
In third grade it is the first time in which they are introduced to the ideas of group that represented by multiplication. They are able to solve the problem without given information by grouping. Standard 3.OA.3: Use multiplication and division
During the last 50 hours, Ashley has been working on learning the division facts and has learned to multiply 2 and 3 digit numbers by 1 digit with all combinations of regrouping. In both these areas she has built fluency. She moves through problems quickly with very few errors. The third grade standard is to be able to multiply and divide within 100. Ashley is currently multiplying within 1000.

“One thing is certain: The human brain has serious problems with calculations. Nothing in its evolution prepared it for the task of memorizing dozens of multiplication facts or for carrying out the multistep operations required for two-digit subtraction.” (Sousa, 2015, p. 35). It is amazing the things that our brain can do and how our brain adapt to perform these kind of calculations. As teachers, we need to take into account that our brain is not ready for calculations, but it can recognize patterns.
In Nothing But The Truth, Philip Malloy received suspension after being removed from class for "singing" the national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner, during the morning announcements. Throughout the story of Nothing But The Truth, the media supports Philip more than the school district, but if the "truth" turned into a court case, who would be successful, Philip Malloy v. Harrison School District? Philip Malloy would be effective in taking the court case because he was not trying to cause a disturbance in Ms. Narwin's homeroom class. In the novel, Philip states“ Yeah. Right.
Alyss or Alice? Why do different conflicts change people in different ways? Authors use different conflicts to change their characters in the novel. Conflicts change characters because they do not want to repeat the problems they previously had. For example, Beddor uses different conflicts in the Looking Glass Wars to change the up coming princess of Wonderland, Alyss.
Math is often one of the hardest subjects to learn. Teachers know rules that can help students, but often they forget that those rules become more nuanced than presented.
Seclude within every guardian’s sinister ideas are one infinitesimal wish that their child would disappear forever. Unwind, a dark, thought-provoking novel emphasize the ignorance of humanity; creating a community with the type of moral justice that vivisects a teenager who wastes thirteen years on being a child. “Set in a future in which abortions are outlawed but parents have the option of signing over their 13- to 17-year-olds to be used as organ donors”(Peters ). Three main characters, Connor, Risa, and Lev have to somehow survive to adulthood while trying to save whoever they come across as well. Symbolism and figurative language are ubiquitous, from the clappers to all the documents meticulously placed at the beginning of each chapter.
“Memoir, in some regard, became the voice of national policy,” so states John D’Agata in Joan Didion’s Formal Experience Of Confusion. He thus proclaims that memoirs and memories exist not only as personal experiences but that they can be remolded for public use. D’Agata’s essay supports the concept that memories are powerful tools which connect and inspire communities. Along with this, he warns that though memories and memorials can be helpful for the remembrance of people and events, they can also manipulate people’s perspectives and even erase certain memories from a narrative. D’Agata depicts memories, specifically through memoirs, as powerful and able to connect and inspire communities.
In my analysis of the 5th grade Math lesson plan, I was able to identify that the teacher had high expectations for the students. According to Amanda Ripley’s, The Smartest Kids in the World, “Studies had shown that American third graders were being asked easier math questions that required simpler responses than children the same age in places like Hong Kong” (71). Unlike what this study found, it is clear this teacher holds their students to high standards due to the amount of problems and skills they are expected to complete within a single class period, listed as “Multiply by 10, Choral response, and Decimal Place Value”, all of which will be completed within the first 12 minutes of class. The lesson plan goes on to include Concept Development for 30 minutes where the students are expected to learn a concept
This quote proves the interest the children having in learning about these things. Rarely do fourth graders happily discuss arithmetic to any extent. Miss Ferenczi is a positive influence by teaching them to be excited about learning through the stories she tells them.
Throughout history men have oppressed women taking away their rights and being treated as second class citizens. In 1848,at the Senca fallls convention the Declartion of sentiments was signed to gain equal .The Author Cady Stanton based the Declartion of sentiments on the Declartion of Independance and through the use of anaphora she conveys the idea that womenhave been oppresed and should have the same rights as any other citizen. Throughout the text Stanton uses anaphora to great extent to demonstrate the way women have been treated as second class citizens. There are many examples of this in the text, but one that shows that women had no voice is:”He has compelled here to submit to laws, in the formation of which she has had no voice.”
Some women responded in opposition; they believed that it was a time of suffrage and social change. Elizabeth Cady Stanton proclaimed that “NOW’s THE HOUR- Not the negro’s hour” alone, but everybody’s hour” as a response to Douglass’s assertion in the precedence of black suffrage. Her perspective as a white woman does not allow for empathy for the black race. Although she has championed for their cause, she cannot be as passionate nor can it be as relevant to her as Frederick Douglass. Stanton’s anger at the 15th amendment is understandable, considering the support she had for the abolition movement.
The conversation I documented was during circle time. The children were documenting the weather outside. After the class agrees on what the weather is they chart it. As they were finishing the teacher asked the class, “which one has the greatest amount and which one has the least amount”?
