The transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, with medium and heavy duty trucks, which tend to be trucks that transport goods, contributing to 23% of the greenhouse gas emissions that are produced from transportation. 86% of the items delivered by Amazon, which are currently delivered by medium and heavy duty trucks, are less than 5 pounds, and therefore can be delivered by an Amazon drone, which does not emit greenhouse gases. Drones have the best potential to transform the transportation of goods because of their versatility in our on-demand society, positive economic impact, and minimal environmental impact.

With the integration of Amazon Prime Air, Amazon is going to have to create more jobs specific to this area of work and hire more employees to fill these positions. For example, an online article from Forbes points out that Amazon needs to stop using the word drone because to the general population the word is associating with delivering death in the military, and instead “use a more friendly term, like humming birds – that is closer to what they sound like.” Amazon has the brains to make Amazon Prime Air work, but they need to hire a team of employees who can think like consumers and think of things like making the name of drones friendlier.
