From 1865 to 1900, the rise of Industrial America occurred. In this time period, the railroad system was developed, new job opportunities sprung up left and right, and the American dream changed. Although the American society’s economy and standard of living seemed to prosper, it also allowed laborers’ lives to crumble,strikes occurred, children were left uneducated and forced to work in order to help support their families, and forced those families to get accustomed to squalid living conditions and hazardous working environments. By September 1929, that figure skyrocketed to $87 billion” (The Market Crashes 1). Stocks were being sold for way more than their reasonable value and that couldn’t go on indefinitely. Although more people in the U.S.owned stock than ever before, “90% of American households owned precisely zero shares of stock” (Sinking Deeper and Deeper 1).
The Bernie Sanders campaign’s “America” ad, featuring a homonymous Simon and Garfunkel song, is undoubtedly a positive ad, filled with warmth, hope and enthusiasm. The minute-long advertisement switches focus from the candidate to the voters, or the American people. Using classic American images, a familiar folk-style soundtrack and footage of children and family, “America” appeals to optimism and quaint patriotism, especially those of Iowans who are the primary target of the ad. The ad opens with the shot of a snowy day, with wind turbines in the background. The image brings viewers Iowa to relate whatever else happens in the rest of the ad, since Iowa is one of the “top states for installed wind capacity.”
Langston Hughes was a poet, play writer, fiction writer, and novelist who spent most of his early years with his grandmother. His grandmother spent her time with him telling him stories of the past. Resultantly, he was instinctually drawn to African American culture. He later wrote stories, biographies and poems about black lives in America. As each year passes in America, life continuously changes through the advancement of technology. However, a more important change in America is seen through the attitudes and actions of the people. In addition, not only are people hurting each other but also themselves through extensive drug usage.
There are far too many parallels between ancient Rome and modern America. It seems as if many people do not care enough about the path our country is headed down. Ethics and values have gone out the window, the government has doomed the working class, people have become violent, people are acting without fully thinking and war is constant. America needs a change before it is too late. Ethics and values have merely disappeared but when they are present they seem to be hypocritical.
Once upon a time, being American was the greatest honor in the world. With heads held up, people could proudly declare their heritage and feel their hearts swell at the sight of a billowing striped flag. Soldiers’ boots could touch foreign earth knowing the blood spilled would be for a nation that was more than deserving. But that was years ago; now, what does this country have worthy of a human life? Next to nothing.
I have doubts that enough Americans will ever seek to look out for the America first. The self-interest of 300+ million Americans leads them to act according to their own short term interests, satisfying their immeadiate needs and possibly wants. The modern American is morphing into an "on-demand" mentality. The more that catches on, the more this economy will depend on other countries to meet our specific demands.
There are people who work 40 hours a week and are still in poverty; this is a highly prominent issue. The uneven distribution of wealth, known as wealth inequality, is a problem that plagues not only America but also the world. With wealth inequality, there are two main issues and one solution to those issues. The problems are that the wealth in America is unevenly distributed and there people in America who work 40 hours a week and still have very little money. Wealth inequality is the root of all problems faced in America.
Adult unemployment has been a problem in society for decades. With it being at an all time high of 25 percent during the Great Depression. Today it has dropped to 4.9 percent. Adult unemployment is also a commonly used soapbox for major political elections. Programs like workforce commissions, welfare and unemployment benefits all help people who cannot work or just choose not to work at all.
Poverty in America is a difficult topic to speak on; everyone has their own views and experiences on poverty. Certain social trends have impacted the society such as Family Dynamics; The way families are now are a lot different than families of the 1950’s-1960’s, In many cases both adult members of the family are working instead of the traditional husband working to support the family. Even with both members working full time it is still hard to support an average family due to working class wages not adjusting to inflation. Poverty has been increasing at a dramatic rate and the government is supporting more and more people with perverse incentives.
One of the most well-known economic industries in America is manufacturing. Manufacturing contributes $ 2.09 trillion directly to the economy. This industry is expanding and growing in the USA meaning there is an increase in the outcome of this industry. Many people work in this industry which means that they earn money, and no one is poor anymore in the USA. Because of many people working in manufacturing, the economy of the USA has increased dramatically.
