The life of America in the year 2016 is so different compared to the life of America in the year 1940. The difference between the two years is depended on the changes of economy, society, politics, and culture. The existence of the war during the year 1940 resulted negative impacts on America life, while the “new” America is living in a more peaceful life today. It is very visible to observe how the change of these aspects impacts significantly on America’s life. Under Roosevelt’s administration, he strongly had actions to change the American economy in order to avoid a repetition of economic catastrophe. The New Deal increased the federal government’s power drastically and contributed to the Democratic political coalition. Ethnic and racial minorities were also an important issue in the year 1940. The New Deal helped to support the rights of minorities. African-Americans gained more rights to vote and received greater voice in government. Besides, women also had a greater voice in government. Native-Americans was one of the minority groups that received great advantages from the New Deal. Through the New Deal, president Roosevelt was able to help establish minimum standards for wages and better working conditions. However, approximately 15 percent of unemployment was still existed in 1940. The Second New Deal had programs that still exist today. The Fair Labor Standards Act established minimum wage and forty-hour workweek. The other act is the Social Security Act, which established programs to help the elderly, the unemployed, the disabled, and the young. This provided many benefits for those people.
