“Love Wins.” On June 26th, 2015, people cheered. They smiled and laughed, with tears of happiness pouring down their cheek. These two words were posted all over the internet, by celebrities and even the president, Barrack Obama. It was a very significant and life changing day for millions of people; it was the day when the Supreme Court of America legalized homosexual marriage. Historians say homosexuality has been documented in every era. It is a natural born human instinct, where people possess different gender identity. Not all people, however, approves or accepts homosexuality. They regard homosexuality as a sin, a crime, a disease. America, very recently decided, also is a country that legalizes LGBT relationships.
According to the protection clause of 14th amendment, gay marriage is legal across all the states.
The President personally showed affection for this particular pronouncement, saying “When all
Americans are treated as equal, we are all more free. The ruling is a victory for America.” America took gradual steps till it reached the day when all the burden on LGBTs were released. When people became equal. When finally, love won over people’s prejudice. Even though America still are committed to a lots of future tasks, it is a gigantic step towards human equality. Over history, our nation had to endure a lot of difficult ordeals and incidents. On June 28,
1969, riots broke out at Stonewall in Greenwich Village in protest of discrimination against LGBT.
Then, on May 17, 2004, Massachusetts became the first state to officially legalize gay marriage.
Then recently, the government, after the Supreme Court’s decision, took a national poll on people’s impression of this event. The result was 60% of the whole population approving gay marriage. Homosexuality is a natural instinct of a human being when they are born.
Homophobia, however, is a prejudice created by external factors. It is initiated from the environment, religion, or inaccurate informations. That is what can be changed if people try. A wrongly generated prejudice is what people should try to eliminate- not a natural born human instinct. In 2013, 92% of adults who are LGBT said they believe society had become more accepting of them than in the past 10 years. It is not impossible to eliminate the discrimination. It was always feasible, throughout history, but now the society is more mature and developed to welcome the change. What the world needs now, are presentable, usable, and efficacious solutions.
Thus, this delegate presents the United Nation with the possible and debatable solutions. First, the insight and the goal for this whole problem should be long term based, as it is very hard to hope for a sudden change, especially if there is a religious barrier.
