American Government’s Impact on Energy. Climate Change, Pollution, and the Environment The modern world faces many environmental issues impacting water, air, and life on earth. The Funk and Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia defines pollution as the “contamination of air, water, or soil by materials that interfere with human health, the quality of life, or the natural functioning of ecosystems. For pollution of the atmosphere by emissions from industrial plants, incinerators, internal-combustion engines, and other sources. For contamination of water, rivers, lakes, and seas by domestic, municipal, nuclear, and industrial waste products” (2014) stating that human life is disturbed by pollution. Many polluted bodies of water on earth have or had a hypoxic region, also known as a dead zone, removing all marine life from the region. These hypoxic regions are caused by runoff carrying various contaminates from fertilizers, pesticides, and various other foreign contaminates. The atmosphere is greatly impacted by the pollution created from wide spread burning and collecting of fossil fuels, causing acid rain, ozone depletion, and climate change. The earth was built to deal with some air pollution from wildfires, decomposition, volcanos, etc. but human life has pushed the emissions of air pollutant to an extreme causing many changes in the many environments of the world. Life on earth is also widely impacted by human activities endangering species and destroying habitats. With these many global environmental issues, the United States is negatively impact the earth, with an enormous ecological foot print, an unsustainable lifestyle, various bodies of water with hypoxic regions,
