During the Imperialism era, America acted as a World Leader. The Imperialism era was an era that America started to act as its own country and this era was when America really started to influence the world. The begging of this era was with our found father George Washington as he made a farewell address, in that address he basically stated that America should be an isolated country and that they the people should not interfere with wars with other countries, and that the trade between countries should be equal. This is proof that America was a World Leader during Imperialism. The evidence that I have to prove that America was a World Leader was when James Monroe writes the Monroe Doctrine. In 1867 was when the US purchased Alaska from Russia. The US was able to gain more land and the US paid Russia a good price for this huge land, the land costing 7.2 million dollars which is 2 cents per acre. In 1899 the open-door policy was written. This policy was proposed by Secretary of State John Hay. He proposed that China should be independent of colonizers and that China needs to have its own culture that was being taken away from colonizers. In 1898 the Spanish-American war broke out. This was a war between Spain and Cuba, Cuba wanted independence from Spain and that was the cause of the war. The US wanted to help Cuba gain independence and the US would send troops to Cuba and after the war, the US was able to get some land from Cuba after the war ended. From 1904 to 1914, Teddy Roosevelt proposed a project that would make transport in America easier. He proposed that a Canal between Panama should be built. This canal would be able to make transport easier and faster for the US. The evidence I have to prove that America acted as a bully more than a world leader was in 1853. This year was when the US along with Matthew Perry arrived in Japan whose countries have been isolated for more than 200 years. When the US got to Japan, the US was basically threatening Japan with their ships and the guns that the US had and Japan couldn't really do anything because they only had swords which were no match for the US guns. The other piece of evidence I have to prove that the US was a bully was when the Annexation of Hawaii happened. In 1894, the US decided that they wanted more land so they went to Hawaii and they took away the profits from the people of Hawaii. The US also decided to take away the rights of people in Hawaii like to vote and the US decided that they would put the queen of Hawaii in jail just because she would not comply with them to give away her land. This proves that America acted more as a bully during the Imperialism Era than a World
