The ability to expand their rule over other countries and territories was known as a major force in shaping modern world for the start of the U.S. Imperialism. With this in mind, what do you think of when you hear the phrase, “American Imperialism”? Well, American Imperialism can be defined as a nation that was motivated to expand its power beyond its boundaries and was an ideal movement for the start of the American Involvement upon other countries throughout the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. As a matter of fact, their where various motives that caused the American Imperialism, which include: economic, military, exploratory, ideological, political, and religious influence of the United States. As a matter of fact, American Leaders gained power because they expanded into other countries and influenced them to support the United States. In this case, by gaining more power, the leaders further established their worldwide credibility and had far more power to imperialize more nations, foster new allies, and strengthen the United States as a whole. As a result, the territories that were imperialized during the late 1800s, early 1900s include Hawaii (annexed), Guam, Puerto Rico, Cuba (gained from Spain following the conclusion of the war), and the Philippines (sold by Spain for $20,000,000). For this reason, during the late 1800s and early 1900s, the United States establishment of the American Imperialism led to different causes and effects in Cuba and the Philippines, due to the desire for economic prosperity, the idea of gaining sovereignty towards other countries, obtaining raw material, and selling manufacture goods by creating of new markets, while the effects of American Imperialism were that it led to destruction by how it’s power led to massive killings and long-term …show more content…

As a result, the United States annexed Hawaii in 1898, in which they gained sovereignty and was another territory that the U.S. had to govern. Specifically, the United States wanted Hawaii as a military base and the U.S. was interested in their sugar plantations, as well as the United States wanted to gain control of Hawaii after President Mckinley states the “Manifest Destiny”.
