There was tension, blood, and tears with the Thirteen Colonies and Great Britain. This was due to the American Revolution that started in 1765 and ended in 1783. So how revolutionary was the American revolutionary war? Well, first what does revolutionary mean? Revolutionary means that things have changed dramatically.
Maria Elena Perez 9/8/14 Period 3 The tightening of British control led to a revolution in colonial America that was led by a series of events. The taxes (Docs 1, 2, 3, 6) and laws (Docs 4, 5, 7, 8) that the British enforced led to actions (Docs 5, 7) that initiated the American Revolution. The British won a long and costly war against France, the Seven Years War. That left Great Britain with a large debt and Parliament saw the colonies as a source of money, so the British raised taxes to pay for war.
The American Revolution War began in April of 1775 and ended in 1783. It lasted about eight years, The war was between Great Britain and the thirteen colonies. The colonist thought that the king began abusing his power and began taking advantage of them. The colonist left their motherland to the New World to get a new life and start over. At the beginning they thanked the king for the opportunity but there came a point where the colonist began seeing the king as a tyrant.
The Revolutionary war was massively revolutionary for the American colonies. After the war, many people’s lives were changed from horrible to somewhat better, even if it took 100 years like how women got their equal rights to men in 1920 (Document 8), how African Americans were all free and not slaves in 1865 (Document 5), how American Indians wern’t getting attacked anymore (Document 9), and how the richest people in the country became equal to some of the poorest people in the country in rights and in wealth(Document 2,3,4). This really impacted many lives for everyone and this all was changed or influenced by the outcome of the Revolutionary war. After defeating the British and separating itself from their power during the revolutionary war, the people wanted a change. After years and years of being under the influence of the British, the people wanted their own form of government that they can personally call theirs. It was the first ever written constitution which was called the Articles of Confederation written by Continental Congress in 1777 as a way to suit the goal of Americans when they were fighting for freedom from the British monarchy. These documents failed their purpose as it interested state’s power over national power which was insufficient after the revolution when a strong central government became necessary. The American Revolution started in 1775, at Lexington and Concord. It all began when the British were abusing the colonists. The British started to use many different resources in daily life. They taxed sugar, stamps, and tea. After this, many protests and battles struck between the British and colonists.
The beginning of war, is the ending of life. The reason that war is death, is that the war of Valley Forge caused many to be deceased, and deceived. I have decided to not re-enlist into the Colonial Army because of sickness (Doc. C+A), Housing (Doc. D+B), and supply shortage (Doc. C+B). In the years 1765 to 1783 Americans were fighting for their independence. Britain finally decided to take its role as a mother country after many years of salutary neglect. The American Revolution was revolutionary because colonist fought for a change in the way the government was set up. A revolution is a forcible overthrow of a government to acquire a new system. In the pamphlet, Common Sense, Thomas Paine expresses his ideas and thoughts of American independence from Britain and encourages the colonists to think on their own and to strive to keep their rights. Paine conveys his ideas about the British political institutions, how the constitution is not structured well, and the disadvantages/problems of a monarchy. He also wrote about religion and its importance, and how it was being overshadowed by British rule. It is not unusual for a government to have flaws, but according to Thomas Paine, Britain's government was very faulty and complex during and before the 1700s. Britain has a constitutional monarchy and its legislative power was very inapt.
The American Revolution, unlike the French Revolution, was not a period filled with “reigns of terrors” or the incessant use of guillotines—on the contrary, it was rather peaceful when considering the extent of its violence, though if one were to view it through a different lens, it could be just as radical. All things considered, there are innumerable amounts of reasons that combined to create the American Revolution such as taxation without representation, mercantilism, British self-government, and so much more. Overall, the underlying reason for the revolt was the poor treatment of colonists in the Americas. Self-government was the idea that, typically within a colony, there would be elected rulers that are free to make a majority of decisions without having the need to refer to the official imperial power of the colony. It was established in the Britain, saying that British Parliament, rather than the king, had the absolute authority in government. In the 1730s, the Parliament started passing taxes, regulating the British colonies in the Americas.
