LEQ 2 Most American have heard the stories about The Famous American Revolution which took place between 1775 and 1783. Also We all heard about the rugged American patriots who were fed up with the British Tyrannous control of the 13 colonies that they decided to revolt against the most power empire in that time of history, Britain, and in a strange turn of events, they won. This is false because there were numerous republics before the American Revolution like the Roman or Athenian republics, which were set up in the same sense, but with different sets of principle and laws. Also, the American revolution was not the first, nor among the first to come up with the idea of a republic, but what they did to set themselves apart from the older republics is that the Americans based their republic on the principles on life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. However, this was not their own ideas or thought, the American founding fathers used the famous book from John Locke, the Enlightenment thinker, in their Declaration of Independence and in the constitution. This shows that the American Colonists should not be charged with creating the first Republic, but more converting it to use the ideas and laws that the majority of American Colonists believed they defrauded by the British Parliament. Also within this period of time this would have been revolutionary because the people of the colonies had not’ heard of John Locke and his ideas, so to them this was a brand new idea for running a government. One major one is Bacon’s Rebellion which was less than 100 years prior to the Revolutionary War, but does not get the same applause as the War. This is caused by the common idea that the War was a whole new thing and it was supported by describing it to the younger generations when we talk about our history that it was so revolutionary for its time, when it only special in the sense that they won. Also, it was not the last revolt in the world, one of the most recent being the Yemeni Civil War. The ground for which these new revolts have not been fluctuating compared to the time of the Revolution because there has always been oppression in the world, which causes people to revolt even if they do not succeed.
