What is a perfect society?
Today’s government is said to be more tolerant and opened minded. Freedom of marriage, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech are only some of the values American’s hold. Are Americans blinded by these small freedoms? And missing the bigger more important values necessary for day to day life? The author Bob Cohn states this fact about today’s values “At the same time, half believe the economic system is unfair to middle- and working-class Americans, and only 17 percent believe Wall Street executives share fundamental American values” (Cohn, 21 Charts That Explain American Values Today). When the revolutions broke out Marx joined Communist leagues. Marx spent most of his life writing and working for communism. Marx was married and was taking care of his six children by writing for New York Daily Tribune. Majority of Marx’s writings were about land property, wage labor, and the world market. Marx believed that in order to have an ideal society the government would become a socialism government then a communist one. Houghton Mifflin Company defines socialism and communism. “Socialism is a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole” (Socialism). Socialism to Marx’s was the middle government to pass in order to achieve communism. The publisher explains communism as “Communism is a political theory derived from Karl Marx, advocating class war and leading to a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid according to their abilities and needs”(Communism).
Plato, one of the two philosophers, was the first to come up with the idea of a perfect state. Plato was born in 427 B.C.E in Athens into an aristocratic family. Plato’s love for philosophy blossomed when he met his teacher Socrates. The author W.J. Marx’s theories were based on equality which came to be called communism. Marx’s ideal society would be a classless one. Marx firmly believed that industrialism was the key to the new classless society. In Marx’s theory his first step to an ideal society would be abolishing ownership and renting of land. The reason is to establish communal living and to rid of nuclear families. Necessities would be stored in a local warehouse were all citizens could equally inquire any goods they need.
